Buying the Cambon, act one of a solidarity land trust in the Cévennes
We are creating a non-profit land trust, run by the people who live here, to buy farmland and agricultural buildings and help new farmers get established. Because access to land is a major challenge in the Cévennes.

A new commons
A farm given back to the territory
The Cambon is a typical Cévennes farm, by the Gardon river in Mialet. Rather than letting it go to the highest bidder, we want to turn it into a commons: an asset that belongs to everyone, whose use is secured over time, serving small-scale farming and the autonomy of the territory.
This project is led by several local associations and collectives — Cévennes 2050, Fruits Oubliés & biodiversité en Cévennes and Terres Vivantes en Cévennes — brought together within the Cerise association.

Four reasons to act, together
🌱
Experiment
Testing concrete solutions to better face the climate, economic and social crises.
🧺
Produce & process
Market gardening, soft fruit, timber and dreams — turned into local resources and shared know-how.
🤝
Pass on
Techniques and knowledge suited to the ecological, social and energy challenges ahead.
🌿
Make it last
A resource place for the autonomy of the territory, securing its shared use over time.
How it works
An open project, for everyone
For whom?
Everyone! An open resource place to learn and train, for individuals and professionals alike. With special attention to young people and those affected by food and energy insecurity.
How?
By giving farmers access to land, restoring housing, creating shared workshops, developing training, and running a collegial, lasting and shared governance.
Where?
At the Cambon farm, by the Gardon river in Mialet (Gard). A typical Cévennes farm: 14 ha of terraces and woodland, springs, ponds and a building of more than 300 m².
